Extension FAQ

What are hand-tied extensions?

Hand-tied is a type of weft, not a method of installing extensions. Hand-tied wefts are made by hand, and are very thin wefts of hair with a thin seam for ultimate customization and comfort, with the ability to lie fairly flat to the head and remain undetectable. They are applied via a sew in method.

How are they applied?

Small sections of hair are placed into beads in a row. This is the foundation that the hair is sewn on to called a beaded row. There is no heat, glue, or tape involved. They are a form of permanent extensions that need to be applied, moved up, and removed by a hairstylist.

Aren't extensions damaging?

When done properly by a trained professional and taken care of properly at home, they are completely safe and can actually protect your hair and help it grow. Your install is done with the hair in natural fall, meaning it's not over directed out of place which can cause damage. Your scalp health is my #1 priority and I take continuing education throughout the year to ensure you are always receiving top of the line installations and results.

Does it hurt?

Your rows should be comfortable and flexible from day one. It should not hurt, however there is additional weight being added which may be slightly uncomfortable or just feel heavy. This goes away in a few days if you experience it.

What products should I use?

I provide you with everything you need in your complimentary take home box. I recommend Iles Formula haircare, and it's what I use on my extensions.

Can you see the beads?

I do a hidden bead method. This means there are wefts placed underneath and above the beaded row, so your beads are never seen. I custom color all of the hair every time for a samless match to your natural hair so that your extensions are never noticable!

What hair do you use?

I only work with 100% ethically sourced remy human hair. Remy means the cuticle of the hair is all facing the same direction just like your natural hair. Ethically sourced means that the hair came from a donor that not only consented to giving their hair, but was also paid for the hair. The hair was not forcibly or unethically taken from someone.

Why do people want extensions?

Some people are looking to add density and volume to thin hair, or fill in their sides-which tend to be thinner or experience more postpartum loss. Other people are growing out a bad haircut, looking for their styles to hold longer, or add length.

How often are they maintained?

For the safety of your scalp, matting prevention, and the best looking extensions, maintenance is scheduled every 6-8 weeks. While some methods claim you can go ten weeks or longer, I strongly discourage it.

For more maintenance questions, please see my extension maintenance page.

Can I bring my own hair?

I prefer hair to be purchased through me-this is the only way I can ensure the quality and predictability of the hair.
